1981 -1990
Originally shipped to France, this 1972 Mach1 was brought back to the States by the original owner who then listed it for sale. Looking through the Friday morning classifieds, Rex found this Mach1 with Ram Air and fold down rear seat for a mere $1650!
The Mach1 served as a daily driver for years, getting Rex to work in style. A re-paint was done in 1990, staying true to the factory colors. The engine and interior were still in good shape so no changes there. They really knew how to build cars back then! In addition to testing the limits of the competition suspension, Rex was also entering local and national Mustang and Shelby events from Connecticut to Atlanta.
1990-2020
Rex took the Mach1 to autocrosses and would earn his stripes (i.e. driving without an instructor) on a road course in West Virginia. Rex added Koni Shocks and larger anti-sway bars to improve the car’s handling.
By 1997, the Mach1 was featured in several national magazines and newspapers. It was then invited to the 25th anniversary of the Business Roundtable group whose members are CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies and former Presidents.
In 2003 he drove it to Dearborn Michigan, attending the Ford 100th anniversary celebration! They took several trips to local dragstrips and ran 1/4 and 1/8 mile track times. Rex was pushing the limits of the Mach1 at road course and banked oval speedway events up to 125 mph thanks to a throaty dual exhaust and four barrel carburetor.
2021-TODAY
The 351 Cleveland was recently rebuilt with high performance in mind thanks to Laz at Mesa Balancing in Hialeah and Frank the Mustang guy at Ford of Kendall. With the more powerful engine, Rex is eager to take it on more adventures and high speed road courses. Since moving to South Florida Rex has also displayed his Mach1 at the Motorcar Cavalcade and the Fort Lauderdale Auto Show.
